Grantees from across the spectrum of disciplines, from cultural, political, and social sciences fields, to the natural, biological, physical, and chemical sciences, or other STEM areas, can participate and develop corresponding research projects. Fulbrighters will gain valuable experience by adapting to different research environments as a result of local practices or traditions.

Candidate Profile

Applicants should have research experience and have completed their undergraduate bachelor's degree. Enrollment in a master's or Ph.D. program is preferred, though candidates pursuing independent research will also be considered.

What is life like for Fulbrighters in the host country?

Applicants are expected to research their host country. Application materials should indicate a clear commitment to the host country community and a description of how you will engage with it.

Argentina is a large country with a wide array of ecosystems, cities and cultures. No two cities are the same with marked differences between regions. From arid La Quiaca in Jujuy to Ushuaia, the Southernmost city in the world, grantees will encounter contexts and conditions significantly different from those at home.

Argentine culture is unique— with mate (of Guaraní origin) and soccer (fútbol) two examples of cultural staples of Argentine life and identity. Grantees will find that each city and town has its own unique personality, from particular “lunfardo” or slang spoken, to the variety in its food and traditional practices. Argentina contains a richness in culture across its geographical breadth. This partly results from the heritage of settlement from across the globe through which new arrivals melded with and transformed local, regional and national practices and identity.

Argentine people are warm and kind, always eager to offer a helping hand or share a good laugh. Grantees incoming to Argentina are sure to leave the country with an expanded mindset, greater cultural adaptability, and a quality of experience under their belt sure to inform how they understand and act in the world.
